The challenge
An entire floor at the Protestant Church in the Netherlands in Utrecht was refurbished. Greenery was an important part of the new interior from the outset. Several custom-built cabinets featured integrated planters, making it essential for the planting to complement the overall design.
The Protestant Church in the Netherlands has been a client of Ten Brinke for many years. We were delighted to help shape a green workplace that reflects the organisation: a place where connection, interaction and hospitality take centre stage.
The plan
The interior features calm, neutral and warm colours. The planting needed to complement this palette while adding life, atmosphere and natural contrast.
The existing trees were retained and complemented with new plants. For the freestanding planting, we chose understated pots and recurring plant varieties at different heights. For the integrated planters, we selected a lush urban jungle mix. Repeating this combination throughout the space would keep the overall design calm and cohesive.
The execution
The integrated planters in the custom-built cabinets were filled with a varied mix of green plants. Different leaf colours, textures and heights create a rich, layered appearance. The same mix was used consistently throughout the floor, providing a recognisable green thread across the interior.
The freestanding plants and large trees were also carefully positioned. Together, they add height, volume and natural variety to the different workspaces and meeting areas.
The result
Greenery is an integral part of the refurbished floor, bringing warmth and character to the understated interior. The combination of integrated planting, freestanding plants and large trees creates a lively workplace without making it feel busy.
The planting also contributes to a pleasant, healthy working environment. Employees and visitors have responded enthusiastically to the abundance of greenery, particularly appreciating the combination of different plant varieties. The result is a welcoming workplace where working, meeting and connecting come together naturally.
