The challenge

For the new Nerds & Company office, we collaborated with Studio Dot NL and interior architect José Koers. The interior plan, characterized by distinct colors, materials, and playful neon elements, was already partly established. The architect had a clear vision for the role of greenery: no standard, densely planted containers, but an airy design with space, contrast, and character. Our task was to translate this vision both aesthetically and technically into a feasible green solution.

The plan

Instead of compact planting, we opted for an open structure. Statement plants like the Strelitzia and Zamioculcas take center stage, alongside striking foliage plants like the Aglaonema and Croton. By grouping plants of various sizes—ranging from 50 cm to 180 cm in height—we created a playful rhythm and natural layering within the space.

A striking detail is the use of large, white decorative stones as a top layer. While dark substrates are often chosen, this light material enhances the airy character of the design. It brings visual calm that balances the vibrant colors of the interior.

The execution

During execution, we paid close attention to the function of the space. We positioned the greenery to keep sightlines clear and ensure walking routes feel logical. Around workstations, TV screens, and windows that need to open, the height and volume of the plants were carefully adjusted.

Additionally, we seamlessly integrated the planting into custom-made, pastel green tiled built-in planters that act as room dividers. The bright yellow freestanding plant pots in the project are a conscious, sustainable choice. These are Ecoline Phoenix Regular pots, made from recycled plastic sourced from old car bumpers, telephones, and computers. This gives existing materials a high-quality new life.

The result

At Nerds & Company, the interior landscaping acts as a unifying element between the different work zones. Where the colors and materials of the interior design have a strong presence, the greenery provides the necessary balance and cohesion. The yellow pots draw attention as real eye-catchers, while the tiled planters ensure a refined, tranquil integration into the building. It is a project where statement and subtlety are perfectly balanced.
